who are we
About us.
The organization started in 2005 by Musenero Julius, as an independent non-profit indigenous church-based charitable organization to try and stop the tide of Vulnerable/ orphaning in particular, and the spread of HIV/AIDS in general, these two factors having been the most frequent situations the church members would turn up for counseling and prayer about.
As the intended
boundaries were found to be outstripped by demand, as the need for services was
growing at a speed so terrific, in an area so wide than the resources,
physical, financial and human, could handle. In light of this, and in
expectation of the future, owing partly to unending spread of AIDS and partly
to increasing abject poverty and Health, SOT was upgraded to a community based
organization on from a small church based organization. So from 2007, SOT is a
fully fledged independent organization with headquarters at
Bugiri, a town in eastern Uganda, about 3 hours away from Kampala the capital
of Uganda. The Organization have branch offices in other districts like
in Iganga and shall continuously have branch offices as the needs of HIV/AIDS
sensitization, Health promotion, Widows, communities, Orphans and Vulnerable
children may arise from time to time.
OUR MISSION
SOT Uganda is a pro-life

human life in all sectors of life restoration and endeavoring to meet the physical, spiritual and
emotional needs to the HIV/AIDS ,orphans and widows facing welf problems.

What We Do for children and Community we serve.
In order to secure the Aims and Objectives of the Organization, serval project have been implemamented that is to say:-
EAGLES NEST CHILDREN'S HOME PROJECT.
Eagles nest Orphanage is a safe Children's home in Uganda under the auspices of the SOT-UGANDA INTERNATIONALl. Eagles nest Orphanage is open to the most vulnerable and marginalized children from Villages, slum areas and HIV/AIDS affected villages. Many of our children are orphans that have experienced extreme poverty. At the orphanage they find a permanent family that believes strongly in preserving the values and traditions of our children's cultures and encourages them to teach it to volunteers and sponsors. Through our child-sponsorship program, sponsors can communicate and learn about another world from a different perspective through emails facilitated by our overseas volunteers between them and their sponsored child. Volunteers that visit our orphanage/safe-home and interact with our children learn that happiness, laughter and giggles are abundant even in the most destitute situations. We hope that this is a message they can echo to the rest of the world to remind all of us who are wrapped up in the busy modern world, to stop and enjoy the little wonders of life.
PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT.
With out education orphans have no future
Sot-uganda international realized that it was her duty to plug this gap in helping non-school going children access formal education through the provision of the stringent scholastic requirements necessary. Sot-uganda international does this by pursuing a double-pronged approach:
Ever since the founding of SOT-UGANDA
INTERNATIONAL it has been our dream to start our own school for AIDS
orphans and children of AIDS widows, In 2005 our dream with the support
and efforts of Miss Karen Hynes became a reality when we opened Modern
junior School. We were fortunate to receive donations for this purpose.
It was decided to open with 3 classes, pre-school, 1st year and second
year Elementary School and to enroll up to nearly 500 local children in
total.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.
We aim at developing Skills among Youth and Women on the background of
laying foundations to combat
various challenges facing Youth and Women in Uganda. Skill development
is an entrepreneurial Project, developed and being implemented by
Sot-Uganda International to benefit Youth mostly Girls, Widows and Single
Mothers in Uganda.
Vulnerable
groups pose special development concerns
nationally and internationally because of their lack of basic pre-requisite resource
endowment or ability that would enable them to ordinary participate in
development effort. As a result they are in many cases marginalized or excluded
from the benefits of the economic growth and national development . They are
powerless, discrimited agnaist and often suffer abuse because of their inherent
conditions. Vulnerable groups there fore need special protection and development enviroment that creates an
inclusive society, with empowered vulnerable Men and Women,Youth and Children
capable of demanding their rights and accessing their entitlements as human
beings.
WATER EVERDAY PROJECT
Sot-Uganda International’s Water Every Day program aim to make measurable and sustainable improvements in water supply in the communities we serve. The solution to the water crisis is not simple. It is a big problem that needs a big answer. The water crisis is only going to end when we all work together with each other, with other CBOs orNGOs, with the communities that we seek to serve, and with YOU. Only through deep commitment and collaboration, will we be able to solve the water crisis.
SAFE MOTHERHOOD PROJECT
Improving
rural maternal and neonatal
health through an empowering methodology of participatory
development, improving health throuhg conducting community based Health
education and improve on the reproductive Health conditions and support
vulnerable pregnant women (young mothers) by distributing mosquito nets
and Mama bags which is used on their delivery.
We recognize that in order to successfully improve health in developing areas, programs must be comprehensive, targeting both the direct and indirect causes of poor health and nutrition. We therefore integrate our HOME-TO-HOME APPROACH’ into our Safe motherhood programs, Where we walk down to the people, deep in the remotest of villages, and teach the basics; what HIV/AIDS is, what it actually is not, ways and means of protection from infection, and how to treat and care for the victims without due discrimination. In vicinities where there is electric current, we use a TV and a VCR and show movies about HIV/AIDS, NUTRITION, and SEXUALLY TRANSIMITED INFECTIONS. At times, when we deem it practicable, we mobilize a parish or an area close to that, using the local political leadership of the area in concert with SOT’s own registered community based volunteers (SOCIAL CARE GROUPS). In SOT jargon, we call this the ‘MASS APPROACH.’
POVERTY ERADICATION PROJECT.
SSOT-UGANDA INTERNATIONAL has taken a futher step in this direction with the
introduction of the plan for modernization of Agriculture. It is a strategic
framework, implemented through multi-sectorial inteventions, aimed at achieving
the broader objective of poverty eradication. Its target is to transform
subsistance Agriculture to commercial or market oriented production. Commercial Agriculture is hoped to result
into many people being able to earn incomes to meet other needs, improve their
lifestyle, create more jobs in rural areas, ensure food security and use
natural resources sustainably.
SOT has demonstration gardens and conducts training to encourage
growing high nutrition crops and local food production. SOT provides
training on the establishment of kitchen gardens, on producing a variety
of resilient food crops, and on composting techniques. At the family
level, helping communities to diversify their nutritional sources, which
is especially useful during extreme weather conditions.
Enviromental conservation project.
Tree planting for Enviroment conservation: The Sot-Uganda International works with rural communities, particularly women, to help them address their needs for essential basic services such as water, fertile soil, and a healthy ecosystem through planting trees on critical watersheds. SOT’s watershed-based approach follows our tried and tested 10-step tree planting approach, engaging communities to form groups, establish tree nurseries and plant seedlings on private farms, public lands, and in degraded forest watersheds. Tree planting on private lands provides community groups with fuel wood, food and sustainable livelihoods. Planting trees on public lands and mountain catchments helps to reduce environmental destruction - halting erosion through the retention of topsoil, harvesting of rainwater, and helps communities build their resilience to climate change.
