As
away to eradicate poverty and create food security. Sot-Uganda International is now involved in agricultural activities like poultry
keeping with a capacity of 1500 birds’ project, Goat rearing project, Piggery
project mushroom growing and a citrus fruit growing project.

of Ugandan population live in the rural ares and 77% of the rural population
labor force is engaged in agriculture .Data from Uganda Bureau of statics
(UBOS) shows that agriculture accounts for about 36% of GDP in 2004/2005 second
only to the services sector that had 43%. Agriculture remains by far the most
important domestic source of wealth. With this in mind, it is important that
special attention is given to the rural areas and Agriculture in particular.
SOT-UGANDA INTERNATIONAL has taken a futher step in this direction with the
introduction of the plan for modernization of Agriculture. It is a strategic
framework, implemented through multi-sectorial inteventions, aimed at achieving
the broader objective of poverty eradication. Its target is to transform
subsistance Agriculture to commercial or market oriented production. Commercial Agriculture is hoped to result
into many people being able to earn incomes to meet other needs, improve their
lifestyle, create more jobs in rural areas, ensure food security and use
natural resources sustainably.
SOT has demonstration gardens and conducts training to encourage
growing high nutrition crops and local food production. SOT provides
training on the establishment of kitchen gardens, on producing a variety
of resilient food crops, and on composting techniques. At the family
level, helping communities to diversify their nutritional sources, which
is especially useful during extreme weather conditions.
